SMP Overview

SMP is a Senegalese special purpose vehicle set up to undertake the Bargny-Sendou port development project.

Principals of SMP include:

- Mr. Dame Diane (Managing Director), a local Senegalese businessman who owns one of the country’s largest textile companies, and holds an MBA from HEC Paris.

- Mr. John P. Tavlarios (Director), is President and CEO of Gener8 Maritime Inc., one of the world’s largest shipping concerns. Mr. Tavlarios was formerly President and founder of Halcyon Trading Company, a consulting firm specializing in international business development with a particular emphasis on the international oil industry. From 1984 to 1992, Mr. Tavlarios was employed at Mobil Oil Corporation spending most of his tenure in the Marine Operations and the Marketing and Refining divisions. Mr. Tavlarios has been involved in the formation of four US publicly traded shipping companies and holds an MBA from St. John’s University.

- Mr. Peter W. Tavoulareas (Director), is the founder of Atlas/InterOcean Shipping Group which at its peak controlled over thirty wet and dry vessels. Peter was involved in the development of Yenbu, the Mobil Oil / Saudi mega-port in the Red Sea. Peter’s father was the President of Mobil Oil Corporation from 1969-1985. Peter has been involved in a number of projects from hotels to refinery projects located mainly in the Middle East. Mr. Tavoulareas holds an MBA from Columbia University.

- Mr. Alexander Zalocosta (Director), worked previously at Goldman Sachs International in London, and also for Gleacher Shacklock LLP and GI Partners LP. Mr. Zalocosta holds a BA & MA in Economics & Management from Oxford University.
